“Force of Nature” is #12 in the Joe Pickett series.
Spoiler: From the end of the last book, Large Merle dies. 😦
Nate Romanowski helps three locals (one he recognizes as the Mad Archer from a few books ago) pull their drifting boat to shore. They, stupidly, pull weapons on Nate with fatal results….for them. Nate sets the boat adrift and realizes that “The Five” are on his trail. He needs to leave. Now.
Wyoming Game Warden, Joe Pickett, is about to take his new trainee out to visit some Elk hunting camps via horseback, when he gets a call. Three dead bodies drifted into Saddlestring and his presence is requested.
Joe and the trainee give up on the camps visits for now and get involved in spies, killing, and murder (my definition of a Thriller).
“”Force of Nature” is one of the best of the Joe Pickett series (I guess my heart IS with Thrillers). Nate (and Joe to some extent) battle the evil forces of ex-government special forces operatives from Idaho to Wyoming.

Great book, great action, great thriller.
